I’m a freelance website designer, based in Worthing, West Sussex and I enjoy working with smaller companies/groups to create their online identity at an affordable rate. I have done a couple of longer term stints with Adur and Worthing Councils and Wiley and Sons over in Chichester, but generally my clients have ranged from businesses to support groups, voluntary organisations to start-ups and are spread across the country from the Lake District down to Dorset, London, and my favourites – just round the corner from home!
I like to work at the speed of my client – some come to me with clear ideas and all the content and it can all happen very quickly, but more often than not the project grows as your understanding of what is possible does.
Generally I will use an off-the-shelf WordPress template to keep costs down, which is then developed to create a unique look and feel using coding and hand crafted graphics and photos. I have excellent coding skils developed over time and have worked with most open source content management systems.
I use Photoshop to develop my graphics and a basic level of illustration is included in the costs of all new website builds.
My background is in publishing having started working for an art magazine, I then progressed to communications generally (magazines, websites etc) as Communications Manager for the British Rowing Association before heading to the University of Kent and working as their Deputy Web Editor. A move down south for warmer weather and clearer waters was when I started freelancing and have never looked back.
